When I Became A Mother

With Mother’s Day coming up this Sunday and Amina’s first birthday fast approaching I have been feeling a bit emotional and think it is time to reflect on my first ten and a half months of motherhood.

When I became a mother I understood what it meant to love your child – that mind blowing, overwhelming, breath taking magical feeling of love that washes over you when you first hold that baby.

When I became a mother I learnt a lot more about myself in such short space of time than I ever did in my 31 years (almost 32 eeekkkk)

When I became a mother I understood how to live in a moment – enjoying our time together as mother and daughter and family is so precious.

When I became a mother I realized that you are never given more than you can’t handle.

When I became a mother I very quickly found out that it is ok to go with the flow and lose control.

When I became a mother it taught me to be present – inhaling every moment, imprinting it in my memory.

When I became a mother I relaxed about many things I would normally be so anal about.

When I became a mother it made me evaluate my relationships with family, friends, acquaintances. Call it selfish but I no longer care about other people’s unnecessary drama, neither do I have the time or the energy for people that only take and don’t give.

When I became a mother I learnt damn well how to be a lot quicker at EVERYTHING!

When I became a mother I started to cheer to the smallest of wins and stopped worrying about the smallest of fails.

When I became a mother I was surprised to find out that I love to be responsible for another human.

When I became a mother I realized that I can still be myself and have my freedom (to an extent).

My favourite bit about motherhood is having a best friend, a mini me, a bundle of joy I can do almost anything with. It is so much fun being a mum (well most times hehe)! I can honestly say I feel complete.

Happy mother’s day to all you beautiful mums out there. Our job is the hardest but the most rewarding one that’s for sure. There is no right or wrong – we are all good mums!
