Shades of Winter
Give a woman the right lipstick and she can conquer the world…
One of not many things I like about the colder season is that wearing dark lipstick becomes a norm. I personally wear deep reds and plum lipstick shades for more fierce looks in winter and bright pink or red-orange colours in summer as they look better on tanned skin. I have an extensive lipstick collection for any season or occasion since I am a self confessed make up addict but I narrowed it down to only 3 shades that I can call this season’s favorites.
Tom Ford lipstick in the shade Casablanca is the perfect winter nude. In winter we are paler and nude lipsticks can makes us look somewhat washed out. This deeper beige nude suits winter complexion very well. The lipstick is creamy and moisturizing as well as highly pigmented and long lasting. Best worn with smokey dark brown or black eye make up.
Next one up is L’Oreal Color Riche 297 Red Passion. This in my opinion is as close to a true red as you can get – not too blue and not too pink either. It a part of their Intense series and is highly pigmented, long lasting and smudge proof. Best worn with smokey eyes or vintage winged eyeliner and lots of lashes.
Diva matte by MAC is what you would call dark plumy red with a hint of blue. I have a medium skin tone so cooler shades suit me better than warmer ones. In the past I stayed away from matte lipsticks especially in winter since my lips tent to get very dry but was pleasantly surprised with MAC’s matte series. Not only are they super pigmented and long lasting they are also not drying at all. And you can always pop a tiny bit of lip balm in the middle of the bottom lip avoiding the edges so you get no smudges. I personally love smokey eyes and dark lips look which is against the general rule but hey do it if you can pull it off.
